Men’s basketball back in action


FIU men’s basketball started the season with a “W” while away at the 2011 Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off in Blacksburg, Va. The Panthers defeated George Mason, 79-76, in overtime.

It is the team’s first-ever win over the Patriots.

FIU’s luck, however, turned on Nov. 15 when Virginia Tech handed the Panthers their first loss of the season. The Hokies walked away with a 78-63 win.

The Panthers are now set to travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take part in the consolation bracket of the 2011 Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off hosted by Oral Roberts and also featuring SMU and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

FIU will face the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions for the first time ever on Monday, Nov. 21.
