FIU to name weight room for healthcare provider


FIU’s Athletics weight room will be named for Doctors Hospital Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

Doctors Hospital, part of Baptist Health South Florida, is the official sports medicine provider of FIU Athletics.

“This is the latest in a deepening relationship between Baptist Health and FIU,” said FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia. “We appreciate not only their financial support, but the health care Doctors Hospital provides to our student-athletes year round.”

The announcement was made one day before the FIU football team headed to St. Petersburg to prepare for the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl, where the Panthers will take on Marshall University’s Thundering Herd on Dec. 20 at 8 p.m.

Doctors Hospital CEO Nelson Lazo and other Baptist Health South Florida leaders attended the announcement at FIU.

Located in the R. Kirk Landon Football Fieldhouse on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, the Doctors Hospital Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Weight Room is used by 400 student-athletes in 17 sports teams.

In addition to the weight room naming, the partnership also includes sponsorship agreements such as signage at FIU venues as well as game day promotions.
