FIU Theatre’s ‘In the Next Room (The Vibrator Play)’ opens Jan. 27

FIU Theatre’s third production of the season brings In the Next Room (The Vibrator Play) to the Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre at Modesto A. Maidique Campus beginning on Friday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. The show will run through Sunday, Feb. 12.

Directed by international guest artist Jesus Quintero, this production explores sexuality, intimacy and the role of women in a changing world by combining historical facts with deep emotion and mischievous humor.

Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity, Dr. Givings begins harnessing the newfound power to treat hysterical female patients at his home with an experimental electric apparatus. Meanwhile Mrs. Givings, a bystander in her husband’s world longing for his affection, begins to grow curious as the peculiar buzzing sounds in the other room become louder. She is unsure how exactly her husband is helping the women he treats, but they keep coming back.

Show times are Wednesday-Saturday at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission ranges between $10-$15. For tickets and more information, visit livethearts.com.
