CNN meteorologist to discuss extreme weather events

Extreme weather is in the forecast with the impending visit of Bonnie Schneider, who’s coming to FIU Friday, Feb. 24. The CNN and HLN meteorologist will discuss the weather anomalies of 2011 at her free lecture, which is scheduled for 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Wertheim Conservatory at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Last year was one for the weather record books. In this country alone, the force of EF5 tornadoes (winds greater than 200 miles per hour) struck Alabama and Missouri, an earthquake in Virginia was felt up and down the East Coast, parts of New York City faced a mandatory hurricane evacuation for the first time, and a drought in the Southern Plains and Southwest caused close to $10 billion in direct losses to crops, livestock and timber.

Schneider, who appears on the various media platforms of CNN and HLN, holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for excellence in weather broadcasting.
