Take a Kubrickian journey under the stars March 1

Get ready to venture into space Thursday, March 1, as the Frost Art Museum hosts another Movie on the Lawn. We helped the Frost get the good word out by letting y’all vote on which film you wanted to see next and, with 26 percent of the vote, you chose Stanley Kubrick’s Oscar-winning 1968 classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film will be projected on the façade of the museum on Avenue of the Arts (facing the Blue Garage), just after at 6 p.m.

Admission to Movies on the Lawn is free and open to the public. Be there – don’t let HAL win!

2001 follows what happens when, at the dawn of the 21st century, a series of encounters between man and mysterious monoliths that are affecting evolution lead to a space voyage to Jupiter tracing a signal emitted by one such monolith found on the moon.

“This is widely regarded as one of the greatest and seminal of all times,” said Gabriella Portela, communications assistant at the Frost. “There’s no better way to watch it than under the stars on a big screen.”

The Frost has teamed up with Film Initiative: Underground, a new student club on campus that will be introducing itself to the FIU community, and with WRGP Radiate FM, which will provide entertainment before the screening.

The food truck Wrap It Up also will be on hand, from 5:30 p.m. until dusk.

The Frost is working on scheduling a second Movie on the Lawn later this semester, so stay tuned for those details.
