The future of Venezuela’s political landscape

An academic discussion about the opposition primaries
and the president’s health

Two events have reignited the discussion on Venezuelan politics in recent weeks: the opposition primaries propelled Gov. Henrique Capriles into the Venezuelan presidential race and President Hugo Chavez continues to experience health issues. FIU’s School of International and Public Affairs will host a discussion about the impact of these issues on the political landscapes of Venezuela.

Featured presenters include Rogelio Perez Perdomo, the 2012 Miami Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies visiting professor and Roberto Briceno-Leon, senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C.   Eduardo Gamarra, FIU professor of politics and international relations, will serve as commentator and Manuel A. Gomez, associate professor of law and coordinator of international legal projects in FIU’s College of Law, will be the moderator.

The discussion will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 6 p.m at the Ruth K. and Shepard Broad Auditorium in the SIPA Building located in the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 S.W. 8th Street in Southwest Miami-Dade County.
