Physics is a homerun at Marlins’ ballpark for one FIU professor

Physics Professor Brian Raue enjoys physics but loves baseball. He spends most of his days exploring the nature of matter with his students and conducting research at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Virginia, which is conducting research on the atom’s nucleus. But sometimes, during the last few classes of the semester, Raue combines physics and his love of baseball in a lesson that proves physics really does govern everything.

With the opening of the new Miami Marlins ballpark this week, the FIU News team stopped by Raue’s office for a lesson in how the physics of a homerun will change in the Marlins’ new home in Little Havana, complete with a retractable roof and a temperature-controlled setting.
