Team FIU joined the largest office party in South Florida when it participated in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Miami Corporate Run April 26.
More than 20,000 runners and walkers competed in the annual spectacle, a 5K (3.1 miles) 27 years running that brings out the best in everyone involved in the spirit of camaraderie.
The run has become a key event to the South Florida community, and the Panthers once again took to downtown and let their presence be known roars and all as they made their way through the streets and down the finish line.

To the City of Miami, it would be considerate and compassionate if somebody within city government would post signage several weeks before an event that effectively shuts down automobile traffic in and out of downtown.
The result of this lack in preparing the public, during rush hour, dumped an unmanageable amount of traffic on to I95, Brickell, and US1, leaving drivers clueless about how to navigate the closures!
Personally, I’d see these events moved to west miami, or Homestead, where the impact to the community would be negligible. I realize local government wants to hold a vision of our city as cool and exciting, but our city lacks the adequate infrastructure; subway, public transport, to make events like the ING Race, Miami Marathon, Corporate Race and at least 2 others within the past year, feasible.
This is an annual event that’s been going on for more than 20 years. They have the downtown-area stretches of highway peppered with signage for this and other citywide events for a week before at least. I don’t pawning off the headache onto our more suburban areas is the answer.
