FIU College of Engineering and Computing faculty among most productive in country

The faculty of FIU’s College of Engineering & Computing is among the most productive in the country, according to the newly published 2011 edition of American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Profiles of Engineering & Engineering Technology Colleges, which collects data from more than 350 engineering schools.

The college’s faculty was ranked ninth in the country and first in Florida in terms of productivity, which is based on the number of engineering graduates per faculty member.

The college was also recognized for being second largest in the country in number of Bachelor of Science degrees awarded in computer science (tying University of California, San Diego for second behind the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). The college is in the top 10 among engineering schools in terms of the diversity of its student body, coming in third in number of B.S. degrees awarded to Hispanics (first in the continental United States), and tied for eighth in B.S. degrees awarded to African-Americans.

“In less than three decades, our college has grown exponentially both in quantity and quality of its programs,” College of Engineering & Computing Dean Amir Mirmiran said. “At FIU we celebrate diversity as it is interwoven with the fabric of our student body and faculty.”
