FIU research on display at major international meeting

FIU research will be prominently on display for the 5,000 physicians, scientists, students and nuclear imaging professionals attending the Society for Nuclear Medicine’s (SNM) 2012 Annual Meeting on June 9-13 in Miami Beach.

Dr. Seza Gulec and other FIU researchers will display their work at the SNM Annual Meeting on June 9-13 in Miami Beach.

SNM is an international scientific and professional organization with more than 17,000 members. The annual meeting, which draws thousands of molecular imaging and nuclear imaging professionals from around the world, features more than 1,800 scientific papers and posters.

FIU will be presenting five different scientific posters featuring faculty, staff and students from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The posters underwent a vigorous peer-review process before being accepted for publication.
Seza Gulec will also be directing a course on Medical Internal Radiation Dosimetry (MIRD): Basic Concepts and Clinical I-131 Dosimetry for Thyroid Cancer.  “I am very proud of the school’s representation at this important meeting,” says Gulec, professor of surgery, radiology/nuclear medicine and biomedical engineering as well as chief of surgical oncology and director of surgical and nuclear oncology research at the Wertheim College of Medicine. He notes that FIU’s research work in molecular and nuclear imaging is unique and innovative. “We are doing incredible work at FIU, and our strong presence at this meeting demonstrates the high quality of the research we produce.”
