FIU doctors join fire-rescue departments and hospitals in Miami-Dade to save stroke victim’s lives



A news conference to announce one of the nation’s largest stroke networks. The effort is a collaboration between doctors from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University, the Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade (FOAM-D) and 16 Miami-Dade County hospitals.

Speakers include Dr. John Rock, dean and senior vice president for medical affairs, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine; FIU physicians Dr. Jeffrey Horstmyer, chairman of the Department of Neurology, and neurology professor Dr. Alejandro Forteza; members of the Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade; medical directors from participating hospitals; and stroke survivors.

The event will be held on Thursday, July 26 at 10 a.m. in the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, Academic Health Center 2 (AHC2), Room 170. Reserved parking is available in lot 33, adjacent to AHC2.
