Renovations, relocations of dining locations underway at MMC

The Fresh Food Company (FFC), Einstein Bro’s Bagels and Sushi Maki are undergoing renovations and relocation of their Graham Center dining locations to better serve the FIU community. The changes will occur in a three-phase process that will be completed by the fall of 2013. The new venues will offer the FIU community more dining options, better ambiance and quality customer service at their convenience.

“We’re very excited about the enhancements to the Fresh Food Company,” says Jeff Krablin, assistant vice president of Business Services. “Phase I of the project has exceeded our expectations by really opening up the space and making the environment more inviting. When the full renovation is complete next summer, we will have a new space that will offer our students, faculty and staff a variety of freshly prepared menu items within a vibrant energizing setting.

“We also recognize that there is a demand for more services at FIU. The Einstein Bros. Bagel restaurant will offer a full service destination venue providing a unique coffeehouse feel previously not found on campus. The new restaurant will provide another meaningful place for our faculty, students and staff to gather, meet and collaborate.”

The project will proceed with the following timeline:

Phase 1:  Currently underway and scheduled for completion Fall 2012

  • Expansion of the Fresh Food Co. dining area along with a bright, new main entrance.
  • New digital screens in Fresh Food Co.
  • New furniture in GC atrium food court.
  • New Einstein Bros. Coffee build-out in current FFC atrium, with expanded outdoor patio seating.
  • New menu items at the Fresh Food Company.

Phase 2:  Scheduled for completion Spring 2013

  • Refurbishment of Sushi Maki, which will now be located next to Subway in the GC atrium. The new location will feature hibachi-style menu items, as well as Asian fusion and hot Asian food cooked to order.
  • Remodel and refurbishment of current Sushi Maki space, which will likely be occupied with a Mediterranean concept in the spring of 2013.

Phase 3:  Closed next summer, re-open for Fall 2013

  • Renovation of the interior of the Fresh Food Company with new look and feel from floor to ceiling.
  • New chef stations featuring new menu items and options.
  • Variety of seating styles including soft seating areas, booths, high tops and bar seating.
  • Additional exterior seating in GC corridor.
