Fall 2012’s Week of Welcome (WOW) starts Friday, Aug. 17, with the traditional Residence Hall Move-In, which will continue on Saturday, Aug. 18. That afternoon, from 3-7 p.m., students will have a chance to cool off and mingle as FIU Splash gets underway at the Housing Quad Pool.

Freshman Convocation is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the U.S. Century Bank Arena at Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC), followed by a chance for Panthers to roar for their women’s soccer team as it faces off against Jacksonville at FIU Soccer Stadium at 4 p.m.

The Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) kicks off its WOW celebrations Aug. 20 at Panther Square with some food, fun and entertainment, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The traditional Blue & Gold Breakfast will be held the next morning, also at Panther Square, beginning at 9:30, while the annual Freshman Luau is set for Thursday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Back at MMC, funny guy John Moloney will have the crowd attending the Student Programming Council’s comedy show in stitches in the GC Ballroom Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m.

The next day, Panthers will learn what the theme for the next Dance Marathon will be when it is revealed in the GC Pit at noon. Later on the evening of Aug. 23, Panthers will partake in one of the university’s most enduring traditions, the Trail of the Torch, which will begin at the MMC Housing Quad at 7 p.m.

The WOW fun will end on the pitch when the men’s soccer team plays at home against Bryant at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24.
