1. Latina Women and the Body
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, FIU’s Women’s Studies Center has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami for “Latina Women and the Body.” Professor Dionne Stephens kicks off the three-part lecture series Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. with “Ni Pardo, Ni Prieto: Presentations of Skin Color Influencing Hispanic Women’s Self Identity.”

Homecoming week kicks off Oct. 7 with the Panthermonium Village at Tamiami Park. Experience live performances, battle of the bands, community vendors and a kid zone.

2. Plug in to tech
Did you know that students have access to online tutorials for a variety of software programs at etraining.fiu.edu? To find out more about these and other technologies, check out the Division of Information Technology’s annual TECHday on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the GC Ballrooms at MMC, featuring presentations from Apple and Adobe and giveaways.

3. Music for the masses
VIP floor seats are still available for the Panthermonium Homecoming Concert on Sunday, Oct. 7, featuring Kaskade, B.o.B. and Cobra Starship. Latin music fans can enjoy Toby Love and Angel y Khriz at BBC’s Pachanga by the Bay festival on Oct. 6; free tickets are available at the Office of Campus Life (MMC and BBC).

4. Taking steps toward a healthy heart
FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus hosts the third annual American Heart Association Miami-Dade County Heart Walk on Saturday, Oct. 6. Sign up as a solo walker or recruit a team and join over 12,000 other participants in supporting a great cause. The program begins at 8 a.m.; the 5K walk/run begins at 9 a.m.

5. Get your learning on
Don’t fall behind before midterms! The Office of Multicultural Programs and Services offers free academic tutoring in math, science and other subjects as available. Stop by the Assistance for Academic Achievement Tutorial Offices at MMC (GC 267) or BBC (WUC 253) to register.
