FIU grad Dennis Lehane MFA ’01 has a new novel titled Live by Night coming out on Oct. 2 – and NPR has an exclusive first read (and listen).

Lehane, an alumnus of the university’s Creative Writing Program, is a Massachusetts native whose work has been adapted into awards-friendly films, including Mystic River (directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Sean Penn, in a role that earned him his first Oscar), Gone Baby Gone (directed by Ben Affleck) and Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Live by Night already is on the Hollywood fast track: Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the book last spring. The studio is developing a silver screen outing as a starring vehicle for DiCaprio.
