Join the Wolfsonian-FIU Visionaries for a benefit evening Nov. 10

The Wolfsonian-FIU Visionaries are at it again.

The group of alumni, artists and art aficionados will host its third fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at The Moore Building in the famed Miami Design District.

The annual event – dubbed “The Art of Illumination” in 2012 – is one of the group’s initiatives to engage the community in an ongoing dialogue with the Miami Beach-based museum.

Tickets are $150 each and are still available to the public. For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact Kelsey Kyle at 305-535-2626 or kelsey@thewolf.fiu.edu.

“The Art of Illumination” will focus on the power and beauty of light as embodied by one-of-a-kind LED light installations by local artists and designers that will be auctioned at the event. The fundraiser’s theme was inspired by the “Arts of Illumination: Illuminating the Arts,” an exterior façade project funded in part by a Knight Arts Challenge grant.

The Visionaries challenged a small group of Miami-based artists to rethink the influence and everyday use of light with LED installations. Participants including AECOM, Matthew Anders, Architectonica Interiors, Alexis Cogul Lleonart and Chad Oppenheim were asked to design an object using Lighting Dynamics LED strip lighting in a way that promotes ambiance, beauty and innovation.

All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit The Wolfsonian-FIU.

The evening coincides with the museum’s 17th anniversary and will feature signature dishes from some of Miami’s top restaurants and caterers, as well as top-shelf spirits from Bacardi, music, and entertainment by Dance NOW! Miami throughout the evening.

“This will be a unique experience – it won’t be your typical museum fundraiser,” said Olga Granda-Scott, the event’s committee chair. “It was essential for the Visionaries to involve prominent designers and creative thinkers from our community in the celebration.”
