Bill Hipp joins College of Architecture + The Arts

Former dean and professor of music at the University of Miami’s Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music Bill Hipp is now the special assistant to the dean of the College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA).

“I couldn’t be more excited. Dr. Hipp brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” said Brian Schriner, dean of CARTA.

During his 24-year-tenure at UM, the Frost School grew in enrollment, selectivity and national stature, as well as a number of strategically important graduate degree programs.

Following his retirement as dean at UM in 2007, he served as interim dean of the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific and interim director the School of Music at the University of South Florida.

He is currently a board member of several national, state and local arts-related foundations and organizations. He was conferred the title of Cavaliere by the Republic of Italy, the Amicus Poloniae Award by the Republic of Poland, and the Diploma de Honor by the Organization of American States. In Jan. of 2002, he was inducted into the Florida Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. In 2006, he was presented with the “Inside Out” Award by the UM Alumni Association; the Distinguished Service Award by the UM Citizens Board; and the key to the city of Salzburg in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Frost School’s summer program there.

March 18, 2007 was declared “William Hipp Day” in proclamations issued by Miami-Dade County, the City of Coral Gables and the Florida House of Representatives.
