Mercedes Prieto, Esq., an adjunct professor with the Legal Studies Institute’s (LSI) Paralegal Program, has won a national teaching competition.

Mercedes Prieto, Esq.

Prieto has been a professor with LSI for more than 18 years.

The American Association for Paralegal Education’s (AAfPE) National Teaching Competition in Savannah, Georgia, challenged participants to showcase their teaching skills and demonstrate how their lessons furthered students’ critical thinking and application abilities.

“Professor Prieto’s performance was selected because of her straightforward approach to addressing a very difficult topic, legal writing,” says LSI Director Ana P. Crucet. “This 2012 national award won by Ms. Prieto reflects the educational quality of the programs offered at LSI and adds another milestone to the Paralegal Program.”

LSI has served the legal community for more than 30 years.

“It was an honor to be selected the winner of the competition,” says Prieto. “The preparation gave me an opportunity to focus acutely on the teaching techniques that I chose to showcase in my presentation.”

AAfPE’s membership includes hundreds of universities, colleges and other institutions of higher learning throughout the United States and Canada.
