1. Panther women got game
The women’s basketball team is 9-6 for the season. FIU leads the SBC and ranks 11th in the country in free throw percentage. Individually, junior Jerica Coley sits atop the league in scoring with a per-game average of 22.9 points. See them this Saturday on ESPN3 against the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, and at home on Thursday, Jan. 17.
2. Set your schedule
Still not sure which classes you’re keeping this quarter? Get moving – Monday, Jan. 14 is the deadline to add a course and to drop one without being charged. Pay your Spring 2013 semester charges by Tuesday, Jan. 15, to avoid late fees.
3. Good experience
Gain work experience while helping your community through the Connect for Good Internship Program. This collaboration between FIU and Catalyst Miami connects students with internships at local nonprofits. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Jan. 16.
4. Get fit
Jump-start your year with the New Year Get Fit challenge at BBC Recreation. Get a free fitness assessment, prizes for hitting your goals and a network of support. Register by Thurday, Jan. 17, at the BBC Recreation Center front desk.
5. Remembering a legacy through service
This year’s MLK Day of Service project is a clean-up effort at Gould’s Park on Saturday, Jan. 19 (sign up here). The university’s celebration runs all month long, including events at the Frost Museum, a delegation in the MLK Parade and hosting a lecture by religious studies professor Tudor Parfitt.
