5 things to know for Monday

Things to Know is your weekly guide to keep you informed and in the know. Just read it and go!

1.   An artsy affair
If you love the arts, you’ll love BBC’s Affair of the Arts. The week-long celebration (Feb. 25-March 1) includes lectures, dance lessons, a comedy show and trips to some of the best local arts venues, such as the Adrienne Arscht Center and the Wolfsonian-FIUSee the full schedule here.

2. Meet the director
Renowned film director and activist Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X) comes to the GC Ballrooms on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30). Want to meet Spike? Create a video trailer for the lecture by Feb. 24 and SPC will announce a winner Monday (details and rules).

3.  See it and believe it
The inaugural FIU Media Arts Festival will be held this March, but the time to enter is now. Create a visual digital or new media project (5 minutes max) that represents the theme “Only in Miami…” and submit it by Thursday, Feb. 28, at fiumaf.com.

4. Supportive steps
Together, we can beat cancer. Celebrate cancer survivors and remember those who have not by raising funds for cancer research, education and services at Relay for Life, an overnight walking fundraiser Friday-Saturday, March 1-2. Grab your friends, join or form a team, and get the word out!

5. Full count
The FIU softball team is coming off of a five-game winning streak into the FIU Classic this weekend (Feb. 22-24). Come to a game (schedule) and find out more about intramural sports clubs on campus.
