Students organize annual Relay for Life, raise money for a cancer-free world

The 9th annual Relay for Life will take place in the area in front of the Ryder Business Building on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m.

“I am participating in this event because my mother is a skin cancer survivor,” said Christian Rodriguez, who is pursuing a Master in Higher Education Administration. “I’ve had many friends and family affected by cancer and, therefore, I do it for them.”

Rodriguez is one of 26 students of diverse majors and backgrounds who comprise the committee charged with planning and coordinating the Relay. They are also charged with surpassing the staggering $91,000 goal achieved last year. The funds benefit cancer-related services sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life participants can join a team, create their own, sign-up for the Survivor’s lap, or make a donation.

Upcoming Events:

  • Donate your hair at the “Look Good, Feel Better” event on Monday, Feb 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in GC 243 (MMC).
