Cuban blogger and independent journalist Yoani Sanchez is scheduled to speak at FIU at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013. All available tickets to this event have been distributed.
The event will be webcast live in English and Spanish. The lecture also will be broadcast live on Univision America stations throughout the nation, including 1140 AM in Miami. Follow the conversation on Twitter via #FIUyoani.
During her visit, Sanchez will receive the FIU medallion of Courage and deliver a lecture titled “Can Technologies and Social Media Accelerate Cuba’s Democratization?”

Espero que por Miami se le de a esta mujer todo el apoyo y el aplauso que se ha ganado con tanto esfuerzo y tantos riesgos. Es dificil precisar que distingue mas a esta gran cubana, si su coraje o la facilidad para poner al descubierto la maldad de los Castro. Desde New Jersey la felicito y la admiro mucho.
Cuando sali de Cuba a los 7 anos, pense que en un dia futuro se anunciaria la caida de Castro y todos los cubanos en la diaspora saldrian a las calles a celebrar. Hoy, 46 anos despues, me doy cuenta que el cambio en nuestra patria no sera asi…pero gracias a personas como Yoani, que tienen el coraje y la conviccion necesaria, abren las puertas para esa celebracion, que aunque lenta, llegara.
