FIU’s Wertheim Lecture Series presents Whole Foods Market co-founder John Mackey


WHO:  As part of FIU’s Wertheim Lecture Series, John Mackey, co-CEO and co-founder ofWhole Foods Market, will visit the university to speak on capitalism and ethics in the business world and discuss his recent book, Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business.

Mackey’s leadership led to the growth of Whole Foods Market, founded in 1978, from a single store in Austin, Texas to an $11 billion Fortune 300 company and a top U.S. supermarket with more than 340 stores and 70,000 team members worldwide. He has been recognized for his work on multiple occasions, including Ernst&Young’s “United States Entrepreneur of the Year,” Barron’s “World’s Best CEO” and FORTUNE’s “Businessperson of the Year.”

WHEN: Thursday, April 4, 2013 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; lecture and Q&A will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by book signing.

WHERE:  North Tower 235, Dining Hall at FIU Downtown on Brickell, 1101 Brickell Ave. in downtown Miami.

WHAT:  The Wertheim Lecture Series is named for Dr. Herbert A. Wertheim, a long-time supporter of FIU. He endowed the Wertheim Lecture series in 1993 to bring distinguished speakers and experts in business leadership and entrepreneurship to the university to address students, faculty, alumni and community members.

NOTE:  Parking will be provided at 1101 Brickell Ave. on floors 5 through 10. Tickets will be validated at the FIU registration table inside the 1101 Brickell lobby.
