Student-athletes keep a grueling schedule, fitting in academic demands with training, practice and games. While coaches and trainers help these students perform on the field, FIU’s Student-Athlete Academic Center supports their performance in the classroom through one-on-one advising, tutoring and study services.
“What we expect from [student-athletes] athletically is huge,” says Phil Moses, director of the SAAC. “So I believe – morally and ethically – that we need to provide services like this to give them a fair chance to compete at the highest level.”
The NCAA estimates that 99% of college athletes do not continue on to the professional level. FIU is no exception, even though there are currently Panthers active in the NFL, MLB and NBA.
