The JNC’s members are divided into geographic regions that correspond with the three divisions of U.S. District Courts in Florida. Acosta is a member of the Southern District Conference where he will serve through 2015.

“It is a privilege to be selected as a member of the JNC,” said Acosta. “The Commission performs a critical public function in Florida, and I’m truly honored to serve on it.”

Acosta has a long history of public service. He was a member of the National Labor Relations Board, and the first Hispanic to hold the rank of Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice. Most recently, he served as the U.S. Attorney for Southern District of Florida and was the longest serving U.S. Attorney in the District since the 1970s.

He currently serves on the Florida Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism; the American Bar Association’s Commission on Hispanic Rights and Responsibilities; and the American Bar Association’s Council for Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Education Pipeline.

He has twice been named one of the nation’s 50 most influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business Magazine, and was named to the list of 100 most influential individuals in business ethics in 2008. Earlier this year, the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presented Acosta with the Chairman’s Higher Education Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements, leadership and determination throughout a lifetime of caring and giving back to the community.
