Fall parking update

Welcome to fall 2013 at FIU!

This semester, in addition to new faculty and staff, we will welcome 4,500 new students to campus. In an effort to accomplish our goal of “Students First” and to reduce the traffic and parking congestion, we are implementing several changes to FIU’s Parking and Transportation on the Modesto Madique Campus and Engineering Campus beginning Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Sept. 6.

TEMPORARY PARKING AREAS & EXPANDED SHUTTLE SERVICE

We will have 2,400 temporary parking spaces available for students, faculty and staff as “all decals” parking from Monday, Aug. 26 to Friday, Sept. 6.

In addition to our existing Panther Mover service between the Charles Perry/Primera Casa building and Panther Garage, we will have pick-up and drop-off locations at the temporary parking areas at Tamiami Park, PG5 Overflow parking area and the Fair and Exposition between 8 and 10 a.m., and 4 and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Shuttle to and from Park and Ride at Engineering Center will run 7 to 10 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN

To move traffic in and out of campus as safely and efficiently as possible, we will have extra police officers and public safety technicians directing traffic.

We will also have additional entrances to the campus at:

  • SW 107 Ave. and SW 19 St. (Fair and Exposition)
  • Coral Way and SW 112 Ave. (Tamiami Park)
  • SW 117 Ave. and SW 21 St., just east of the Florida Turnpike.

ADDITIONAL PARKING FOR HOUSING RESIDENTS

An additional 291 reserved parking spaces for residential students are available at the new Parkview Housing Garage. These spaces, available for an additional charge, are for current occupants of university housing only.
