Experts discuss the Syrian conflict in a global perspective

FIU’s School of International and Public Affairs will host a panel discussion about the current situation in Syria Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. Panelists will discuss the challenges for the Obama administration in crafting an effective strategy, including the possibility of military intervention, as well as the plan for Syria to relinquish its chemical weapons. The event will take place in Room GC 243 in the Graham Center on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., in west Miami-Dade, and it is free and open to the public.

The discussion is co-sponsored by the Vaclav Havel Initiative for Human Rights and Diplomacy, Department of Politics and International Relations, Department of Criminal Justice, Department of History, Department of Modern Languages, College of Law, and the Middle East Studies Program.

President Mark B. Rosenberg will open the discussion which will be moderated by Sholomi Dinar, associate director for academics, School of International and Public Affairs
