Our students are Worlds Ahead

President Mark B. Rosenberg sent the following message to the FIU community on October 29, 2013:

Dear FIU students, faculty and staff:

Our students know what it means to be Worlds Ahead. Just in the last few days we have received word of their outstanding performance on the national stage:

  • Our Model United Nations team snatched the Best Small Delegation prize at the National Security Collegiate Conference hosted by the Georgetown International Relations Association in Bethesda, Maryland this weekend. They competed against 43 other teams from the U.S. and Canada, and were one of only two Florida delegations.  The FIU Model UN team is currently ranked seventh in North America, and this win may help them move up in the rankings.
  • Earlier this fall they ranked “Outstanding Small Delegation” in the Columbia Model UN in New York competition. Please join me in wishing team Director Mark Hodgson and Head Delegates Anthony Mercado and Ethan Roberts and our entire Model UN team continued success. They are truly Worlds Ahead!

  • Also this weekend, in Chicago, nine of our students participated in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) 27th annual conference, which I attended as well. Our students represented us well and had ample opportunity to network and explore the conference’s theme, “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Securing the American Dream.”

At FIU we are engaged in securing the American Dream every day and our students are living it every time they find themselves competing favorably with peers from around the nation.

I want to thank our students for working so hard and our faculty and staff for your role in helping our students achieve their dreams. You make us proud.

Sincerely,
