Reappointment of President Rosenberg

FIU Board of Trustees Chairman, Albert Maury, sent the following message to the FIU community on November 22, 2013:

Dear FIU family,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that on Thursday the Board of Governors (BOG) of the State University System confirmed the reappointment of President Mark B. Rosenberg for an additional five years.

In his first four years, he has assembled an incredible team to carry out our vision for FIU as a leading student-centered urban public research university that has become a solutions center locally and globally.

That vision has led FIU to grow into the seventh largest university in the United States. Along the way, we have achieved a number of milestones. They include the skilled, managed enrollment growth of nearly 12,000 academically qualified students; expansion of FIU’s workforce by more than 2,000 faculty and staff; and the reaffirmation of accreditation of FIU by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools.

Today, FIU graduates more than 12,000 students each year, including more Hispanics than any other university in the continental U.S. FIU also is a leader in STEM education, particularly the education of Hispanics and other underrepresented minorities.

FIU, under President Rosenberg’s leadership, is committed to giving our students the tools they need to succeed in and outside the classroom. Just last week, the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities recognized FIU’s Graduation Success Initiative, or GSI, with the MVP award. This award was for FIU’s high-tech, high touch efforts in increasing our graduation rate by nine percentage points in the course of two years.

With these and many more achievements, President Rosenberg in just a few short years has turned the impossible into the inevitable. Please join me in congratulating him and supporting him as he leads us to our next horizon.

Sincerely,

Signature

Albert Maury

Chairman, FIU Board of Trustees
