Thank you!

President Mark B. Rosenberg sent the following message to the FIU community on November 21, 2013:

Dear FIU students, faculty and staff:

Thank you so much for the incredibly warm welcome you gave our guests this week.

We received innumerable compliments from members of the Board of Governors, our trustees, trustees from our sister institutions and colleagues from around the state who felt at home at our FIU.

BOGSTUDENTSUPDATE

We are particularly proud of the three FIU students who had an opportunity to welcome the Board of Governors:  Michael Perez, a dual enrollment student from nearby Coral Park High School, Medjy Pierre-Louis, a junior and a Gates Millennium Scholar and Shahed Al-Tammar, a Ph.D. student in public administration. Their eloquence and passion spoke clearly as to why our university is Worlds Ahead.

Here are some highlights of the past two days:

  • The Board of Governors appointed as our new Chancellor Marshall Criser III, who is from Miami!
  • Professor Andrew Hamilton, vice chancellor at University of Oxford announced the creation of the Frost Scholarship: a full ride for Florida students to earn their Master’s courses in a STEM discipline at Oxford. What an opportunity!
  • I had the privilege of welcoming President Judy Bense from the University of West Florida and thanking her for our new partnership to promote small and medium-sized business in our community.

Thanks again for your hospitality and willingness to share our incredible university with others, including several student body presidents, from around the state. We can be proud of the world class university–and community–we have built!

This week exceeded our expectations. I want to thank the FIU family for your support and great work!

Sincerely,
