As part of Conference USA’s celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Feb. 5, FIU will host its first annual NGWSD game versus in-state rival Florida Atlantic this Saturday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET from Lime Court at U.S. Century Bank Arena.
All female FIU employees will be admitted into the game for free with their FIU card, and are encouraged to bring their daughters who will also be admitted for free. In addition, girls under the age of 12 will receive a free t-shirt.
The day will feature in-game contests and post-game autographs with the nation’s leading scorer, Jerica Coley, and the FIU women’s basketball team (inside Gate 3). During halftime, Dr. Rosa Jones, former FIU Vice President of Student Affairs, will be recognized for her efforts to promote females in athletics.
National Women and Girls in Sport Day is a C-USA initiative. The NGWSD began in 1987 and celebrates women’s and girl’s participation and excellence in sports. It is also an important day to promote the continued expansion of opportunities for females to play sports and live physically active lives.
