Robots and rockets highlight FIU Engineering Expo


More than 1,400 elementary, middle and high school students from Miami-Dade and Broward counties will gather at FIU’s Engineering Center for the 13th Annual FIU Engineering Expo. The expo is an interactive, multi-faceted program featuring hands-on demonstrations, contests, research lab tours and other events designed to stimulate interest in engineering and science careers and enhance students’ professional and interpersonal skills.

Attendees include FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg, College of Engineering & Computing Dean Amir Mirmiran and Miami-Dade and Broward county students.

The expo will take place Friday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at FIU’s Engineering Center, 10555 West Flagler Street in Miami.

Activities throughout the day include:Discovery Lab’s Telebot prototype

  • Bicycle-powered blender
  • Build your own Rube Goldberg Machine
  • Driving Simulation Lab
  • NASA Hybrid Rocket Team
  • Panther Motorsports Formula 1 Team Car
  • Catapult Egg Launch

Friday, Feb. 21, will be proclaimed FIU Engineering Day in Miami-Dade County.
