Inaugural eMerge Americas presents extraordinary opportunities for FIU community

Industry titans, civic leaders, entrepreneurs and global thought leaders will converge in Miami May 1-7 to lay the groundwork for a technology corridor for Latin America at the inaugural eMerge Americas at the Miami Beach Convention Center. FIU students, staff, faculty and alumni who act quickly have the opportunity to volunteer in this groundbreaking event or attend at a greatly reduced cost.

The roster of speakers at the summit will include thought leaders such as FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg, Miami-Dade County Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvahlo and Wences Casares, CEO of Lemon Wallet. As a Global Sponsor, FIU will have a pavilion at the convention center, showcasing university innovations like Aquarius, the world’s only underwater research facility; the Wall of Wind, which can simulate a Category 5 hurricane; and RoboCop, designed to allow disabled police to serve as patrol officers.

As part of the summit, start up and growth companies will be profiled and provided with an opportunity to develop valuable networking relations. Other highlights include the eMerge Hackathon, the ultimate event for developers, designers, tech enthusiasts and entrepreneurs, and the eMerge Games, where video game industry professionals will interact, network and promote their products, services and expertise.

Learning opportunities in many “tracks.”

To help participants design their most effective eMerge Americas experience, the discussions, workshops and other events feature five tracks:

  • eMerge “Health” brings together healthcare and civic leaders, leading-edge technologists, cross-sector corporations and entrepreneurs to identify high-impact solutions and best practices.
  • eMerge “Money” presents thought leaders in financial services and innovative technology companies sharing how innovation and technology will transform the financial services industry in the Americas.
  • eMerge “Cities” lets civic leaders and industrialists address common urban challenges and seek ways to employ cutting-edge technology for a better quality of life for citizens through efficient, cleaner and smarter cities.
  • eMerge “Entertain” brings together broadcasters, publishers, content aggregators, social networkers, gamers and music industry leaders to share how the industry is being transformed through new technology.
  • eMerge “Smart” showcases the latest tools and best practices in education and the work place as educators, corporate executives and thought leaders demonstrate how technology is revolutionizing the way people learn and work.

FIU is recruiting student volunteers to participate in the conference. In addition to event admission, parking and meals will be provided. To learn more about this opportunity, call Ileana Canizares at 305-779-9261, send her an email to icanizar@fiu.edu or fill out a volunteer form on the FIU-eMerge website.

Thanks to the university’s sponsorship role with conference presenter Technology Foundation of the Americas, members of the FIU community will receive a 25 percent discount on registration to attend the event and will have access to keynotes, panels, social events and a job fair. Those who register between now and March 31 using the code FIUEMERGE for the $195 Early Bird Summit rate will pay just $146.25. After March 31, the cost will rise to $495 for the summit rate, or $371.25 for the FIU community.

“Since eMerge America’s earliest stages, we have been grateful for FIU’s support,” said Xavier Gonzalez, executive director of the Technology Foundation of the Americas. “We urge all members of the FIU community with an interest in technology, business and the future of Miami to join us for this groundbreaking event.”
