Alumni Association to host annual Scholarship Fishing Tournament May 31

Fishing-1

On Saturday, May 31, the FIU Alumni Association will host one of the university’s most rewarding traditions, the 12th Annual FIU Scholarship Fishing Tournament. Participants will help raise funds for student scholarships. Sponsored by TotalBank, the event’s net proceeds will go toward the FIU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

The tournament primarily features fishing for dolphin; however, prizes are also awarded for the biggest fun fish, which include wahoo, tuna or kingfish. Other prize categories include Junior Angler, Ladies Dolphin, Largest Dolphin and Most Aggregate Weight.

For $15, Panthers and their families can enjoy unlimited food and beverage sampling at the dock party, which is free to the public and will feature live entertainment, prizes and giveaways. Also scheduled are the following activities:

  • A sea-creature touch tank  provided by FIU Marine Sciences Program
  • Live music sponsored by STR Miami
  • Activities for children including a kids fishing tournament
  • Giveaways from our sponsors
  • Paw Wall – an enticing opportunity to win amazing prizes while helping benefit student scholarships

The event will culminate in recognizing this year’s recipients of the Legacy Scholarship, awarded to students whose parents, grandparents or siblings are graduates of the university, and the Panther Pride Scholarship, awarded to students demonstrating outstanding involvement in campus life and activities.

The tournament and dock party will take place at the Sea Isle Marina located at 1635 North Bayshore Dr., Miami, FL 33131.
