Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU cooks up recipe contest

Amateur cooks with original recipes for gefilte fish, homemade pickles or rugelach have a chance to test their culinary prowess this fall in the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU’s “From My Family’s Kitchen” recipe contest.

The contest, which will take place Sept. 21 at the museum, will coincide with the final weekend of the museum’s original exhibit Growers, Grocers & Gefilte Fish. Home cooks 18 and older with original recipes for gefilte fish, pickles and rugelach are eligible to enter. A panel of judges will select the winning recipes including Chef Allen Susser, Danny Serfer from Blue Collar, Josh Marcus from Josh’s Deli, NBC 6 Anchor Adam Kuperstein, Linda Gassenheimer from WLRN and The Miami Herald and Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally A. Heyman. This event will be hosted by documentary filmmaker Billy Corben. Prizes include museum memberships, restaurant gift certificates and more.

Folks looking to stir up their creative juices this fall can find the official rules and contest entry form online. Entry forms must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12. Contestants must bring 10 samples of their entries to the museum between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. No caterers or professional chefs are permitted to enter.
