Everything you need to know about parking, traffic and tailgating for this week’s football home opener


This Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 7 p.m.  FIU Football will host its season opener against Bethune-Cookman. We welcome you, your families and friends to attend the game and show your FIU spirit!

Tailgating arrangements

In order to help accommodate FIU football fans, the Cuban Memorial Lot (North Lot) and the Red Lot, both in Tamiami Park, will be open to the FIU community for tailgating at no charge, with access available through campus. Students, staff and alumni may tailgate in Lot 6 by completing the FIU Tailgate reservation form. There will be additional parking available in Lots 3, 5, 8 and 9.

Parking Lot Closures

  • Starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014, no vehicles will be allowed entry to Lot 6 (east of the stadium) and Lot 7 (west of the stadium). Vehicles will only be allowed to exit.
  • Starting at noon on Friday, August 29, 2014, Lots 4, 6, 7, and 24 (east of the stadium) will be closed. All vehicles must be removed from these lots by then. 

Street Closures

Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014, the following two streets will close to vehicular traffic:

  • 17th Street, from the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center (WPAC) to the Baseball Stadium
  • The section of Campus Drive that goes through Parkview Hall
