FIU ranks among top national universities for contributions to the public good


FIU was recently named among the top universities in the country in terms of engagement and contributions to its community.

According to recently-released rankings of national universities by Washington MonthlyFlorida International University placed 24th out of 277 higher education institutions. The university also ranked 38th in federal work-study funds allocated to service, 47th in graduation rate and 16th in community service participation and hours served.

Washington Monthly’s rankings score universities according to the following categories:

  • Social mobility: recruiting and graduating low-income students
  • Research: producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D. graduates
  • Service: encouraging students to give something back to their country

This marks a steady climb since 2009 when the university ranked 177.

The FIU mobile clinic is part of the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP™ program and provides free, accessible primary care to members of the community in North Miami-Dade.
