Homecoming brings exciting events for parents and families

At FIU, Homecoming is a week-long celebration marked with a parade, tailgate, football game, concerts, comedy shows and more. Homecoming is the perfect time for Panther parents to join their student in celebrating school pride.

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17-18, will feature several events hosted specifically for FIU parents and families:

Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 – 6 p.m.

Paint Nite in the MARC Pavilion (second floor)
Come channel your inner artist or show off a hidden talent during a night filled with music, wine, appetizers and art. With the help of an artist, participants will each paint their own unique Roary masterpiece. No previous painting experience is needed. This event has a limited number of seats available. RSVP is required and will be taken first come, first served basis.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 – 11 a.m.

FIU Proud Parent & Family Brunch in the FIU Stadium Club
The best way to start your FIU Homecoming experience is at the FIU Proud Parent and Family Brunch. This event will include catered brunch, appearances by the FIU mascot, Roary, FIU cheerleaders, Salsa Kings, giveaways and other great entertainment. FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg will be in attendance to meet your FIU proud family.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 – 1 p.m.

Parent Leadership Council Meeting in the Parkview Multipurpose Room
The Parent Leadership Council’s mission is to actively engage parents and family of FIU students to become a prevalent leadership team. This meeting will include discussion on how parents and families can support our students, ways that the council can reach out to other family members, and identify ways to remain involved with the university (events, programs, fundraising, etc.).

Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 – 1:45 p.m.

Homecoming Parade starting at Lot 9 to Tamiami Park
Join your student, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the community as we showcase our FIU pride, spirit and unity. This year’s Homecoming Parade will feature various FIU organizations, floats, performers, marching bands, dancers and more. The parade will lead to the tailgating area before the Homecoming game.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 – 3 p.m.

FIU Tailgate in Lot 6 (close to the stadium near the Family Fun Zone and Alumni Association tents)
The official tailgate tent for FIU Parents and Family to tailgate before the game will be a fun-filled event complete with food, cash bar and traditional tailgate games like corn hole, life-sized jenga and footballs. Be sure to look game-day ready for our photo booth.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 – 6 p.m.

Homecoming Football Game – FIU vs. Marshall at Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium
Game time! Watch as the FIU Panthers take on Marshall University in a game that is sure to UNLEASH THE SPIRIT.

Cost for attending Parent and Family Day is $50 per parent or family member. FIU students and children under 10 years of age do not need tickets. Each Parent and Family Day ticket includes admission to Paint Nite (limited space), Parent & Family brunch, leadership council meeting, Homecoming Parade, football tailgate and a ticket to the football game. FIU Recreation Services is also extending a warm welcome to FIU parents and families, inviting them to visit and use the Recreation Center on both Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Please note that children under 18 years of age are not permitted use of the activity areas due to liability concerns. A guest waiver must be completed for every adult Rec Center visitor.
