Provost names Nicole Kaufman Glasgow interim Vice President for Engagement

Provost Kenneth G. Furton sent the following message to the university community on Oct. 1.

I am pleased to announce that Nicole Kaufman Glasgow has been appointed Interim Vice President for the Office of Engagement.

Kaufman Glasgow

Nicole Kaufman Glasgow has served FIU for more than 10 years.

Having worked closely with the Office of Engagement since its establishment in 2010, Nicole was selected to serve as Assistant Vice President of Engagement earlier this year and hit the ground running.  During her tenure in Engagement, she has improved operational efficiencies, raised over $2.5 million for programmatic support, and led the Office’s strategic planning efforts to align with FIU’s new strategic plan and the BOG performance metrics.

Nicole has served FIU for more than 10 years.  Prior to assuming her role in the Office of Engagement, Nicole worked in the Division of University Advancement as Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.  There, she fostered university-wide partnerships with leading national and international philanthropic organizations, raising and helping to raise over $130 million over the course of her tenure.

Deeply involved in program development and implementation, Nicole has worked on a number of key interdisciplinary initiatives to address community challenges.  This includes the development of FIU’s university community school model, The Education Effect; leadership in our partnership with Miami Dade County Public Schools, ACCESS; support in the conceptualization of our hospitality-training program for the unemployed, Learning Skills for Life; and support in launching the STEM Transformation Institute, our multidisciplinary effort to improve STEM teaching and learning across the K-20 spectrum.

To deepen FIU’s impact and broaden our reach as a solutions center for our community, the Office of Engagement convenes and leads diverse stakeholders to identify and advance shared goals through large-scale partnerships.  The Office leverages these partnerships to further faculty and student-led community-based learning and research, resulting in new social innovation, reciprocally beneficial relationships with community, talent incubation, and ultimately transformational societal changes.

FIU’s leadership as an engaged anchor institution has earned inclusion in the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, and ranking as the 24th university in the nation for engagement and contributions to the community by Washington Monthly. Additionally, FIU is a 2014 Campus Compact finalist for Engaged Campus and Campus-Community Partnerships.

In addition to her expansive professional network locally and nationwide, Nicole has forged close working relationships with academic and administrative leadership across the university. Nicole earned a Bachelor’s degree in Puerto Rican and Hispanic Caribbean Studies from Rutgers University and a Master’s of Science in Integrated Communications from FIU’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

I thank Nicole for agreeing to serve in this capacity and appreciate her commitment to keep the Office of Engagement moving forward.
