Peace Corps and FIU form partnership to develop global leaders


FIU is the first university in Florida to launch Peace Corps Prep, a program to prepare students for the Peace Corps and international opportunities. FIU is the largest of approximately 25 schools currently participating in the program.

On Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Carrie Hessler-Radelet, United States Peace Corps director, and Kenneth G. Furton, FIU provost and executive vice president will be speaking about the launch of the program.

Students in FIU’s Peace Corps Prep will complete a program that includes four global learning courses, four semesters of foreign language study, and a globally focused community engagement project. The goal is for students to gain skills and experiences that make them competitive applicants. The Peace Corps is an international service organization that sends Americans abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world.

The event will take place at the FIU Modesto A. Maidique Campus in the Graham Center, Room 140.
