12th annual Student Leadership Summit call for programs

The 12th annual Student Leadership Summit, a one-day leadership conference for current and emerging student leaders, is currently seeking program proposals by faculty, staff, advisors and graduate students that address a variety of leadership competencies, including effective communication, interpersonal skills and social responsibility.

The Summit will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 at the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC); it will provide students the opportunity to learn from the vast expertise of FIU faculty and administrators, to share their leadership experiences with each other, and establish a network of support and cooperation within the university.

“It was a great opportunity to network with FIU faculty and staff members as well as to later use as a resource throughout my time at FIU,” said Alina Quintana, who attended the conference as a student in 2009. ” The summit opened my eyes to new ways to work with others, improve on my leadership skills, and taught me how to be open to others view’s, ideas, and opinions. It also gave me the opportunity to learn from other student leaders and their specific areas which led to me getting involved in other areas within the university.”

All proposals may be submitted online. All programs are 60 minutes in length with an anticipated audience of approximately 40 students per session. Undergraduate students interested in presenting at the summit will need to partner with a faculty, staff or graduate student and will be required to submit the proposal together. The deadline for proposals is Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m.

The Student Leadership Summit is coordinated by the BBC and Modesto A. Maidique Campus offices of Campus Life, Orientation and Parent Programs, Center for Leadership & Service, Career Services, Housing and Residential Life, Multicultural Programs and Services, Alumni Relations, and Athletics.
