Call for nominations for Outstanding Student Life Awards

On Monday, Jan. 12, nominations opened for the annual Outstanding Student Life Awards – a unique opportunity for faculty, staff and students to recognize FIU student leaders who have excelled academically and in the areas of distinguished service to others, citizenship, innovation, leadership, diversity advancement and promotion of the Panther Spirit.

Created and sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, there’s no other award ceremony that honors students from every academic year and college.

“Each year, the Outstanding Student Life Awards committee strives to expand its nomination pool to recognize students across the university who lead by example,” said Bronwen Bares Pelaez, chair, Outstanding Student Life Awards Committee and director, Women’s Center. “We encourage faculty, staff and students to take a few minutes to nominate a student who has taken their college career beyond excelling in the classroom to make improvements to the FIU and greater community.”

To be eligible, students must:

• Demonstrate leadership in the university community through formal and informal leadership roles in organizations and activities that enhance life on campus
• Be an enrolled student at FIU during the semester of the awards ceremony (Spring 2015)
• Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50
• Be in good standing with the university

The Outstanding Student Life Awards culminates each spring with an award ceremony and formal dinner for award finalists, family members and participating university faculty and staff. The 2015 event will take place on Thursday, April 2, in the Graham Center ballrooms at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
