President Barack Obama will participate in an immigration town hall meeting on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015. The town hall is organized by MSNBC and Telemundo and hosted by anchor Jose Diaz Balart. As our university prepares for President Obama’s visit, please be aware of the following information:
Parking and Traffic
Parking and traffic patterns on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus will be altered on Wednesday to accommodate the security associated with a presidential visit. Please give yourself additional travel time if you plan to be on the east side of campus that day.
· Parking lot 3 near the bookstore, and lots 33 and 35 near the Graham Center and AHC-I will be closed at 11 p.m. today through 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Alternate parking may be found in PG5 and PG6.
· The entrance to campus on 107th Ave. and 16th Street, as well as part of Campus Drive north of that entrance, will be closed for short periods of time Wednesday afternoon. Please avoid the area and use the entrances off 8th Street as alternates.
· Also please note that Golden Panther Express and CATS Shuttle stops will be relocated from the area near the bookstore to just east of PG5 all day Wednesday.
For more information or questions regarding parking, please contact the Department of Parking and Transportation at 305-348-3615.
Town hall viewing
Clearly a presidential visit is an important and historic event for our university and we wish to make the experience available to as many members of the community as possible. In order to accommodate our community’s interest, MSNBC/Telemundo will be providing a live feed for students, faculty and staff who wish to watch the town hall in real time.
The FIU community viewing room is GC 140; seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is expected to begin at approximately 3 p.m.
The town hall will air Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on Telemundo, Channel 51 and at 8 p.m. on MSNBC.
Members of the FIU community, including students, President Mark B. Rosenberg, and members of the board, will be in attendance at the town hall. Students who have been selected to attend have been notified.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we open our campus to this nationally televised show with President Obama.
[…] President Obama to speak in town hall at MMC […]
Why? The borders are wide open.
FIU,
Congratulations!
What an honor to have the President come to the campus.
That really says a lot about FIU; and the South Florida Community.
All Politics aside When the President of your country comes to your community that is always and honor.
Considering the Politics however, that says even more how important the University and the South Florida Community is in the picture of things, presently, and more so into the future…
GO Golden Panthers
Where is my Ticket to see the President?….I see that the Veterans and the old learners and alumni does not count
I see that it says live stream, but where is the link?
It was an honor to have the President stop by our community. Unfortunately I was studying in the other side of campus, but it was all the rage within the student body today. Everyone was talking about how bad the traffic was. What else is new?
