Students rock and race TEDxFIU

Student TEDxFIU talks are capturing thousands of views as applications open for TEDxFIU 2015

Thousands of people around the world are tuning in to listen to the fearless journey of two FIU undergraduates who spoke at TEDxFIU 2014. The TEDx talks of Dion Von Moltke and Karla Gutierrez on the official YouTube channel have captured nearly 10,000 views in just a few short months.

Von Moltke is a business major and professional racecar driver. In his talk, “What does it take to be a racecar driver,” he shared the challenges, setbacks and triumphs he’s faced making it in the highly competitive world of professional racing. His appearance at FIU has even made its way into the national media. In an interview with Wheels, an online magazine, he described the experience of being involved in TEDxFIU.

“It was a great experience; I learned a lot, and met a lot of great people,” he told the magazine. “I really enjoyed it, and I hope someone gets inspiration from it,” Von Moltke said. “The other speakers were such amazing people, I kind of felt like ‘what am I doing here?’”

In her TEDxFIU talk, “Finding my inner song,” Gutierrez shared her very personal journey of giving up financial stability to pursue her dream of being a musician. She was the sole performer at TEDXFIU and left the audience breathless with her songs.

In an interview with the newsletter of her college, CARTA, Gutierrez said she hopes her TEDxFIU talk will inspire others. “I like Ted Talks because I feel connected to the idea of sharing stories that would encourage others to focus on the joy and continuous discovery of life, accepting challenges and overcoming fears.”
