Architecture Professor Jaime Canaves has been teaching students at FIU since the university’s early days – but at first, some students had trouble believing he was actually their professor.
Canaves, who established the annual Walk on Water competition that has become a university tradition, talks about his experience as a young professor at an even younger institution.

I love this event! I never miss it!
Although I never had the opportunity to take class with this particular professor, I have the opportunity to interact with him at several students and alumni events. My friends who did take classes with him absolutely thought he was an amazing professor. You could tell that he brings a lot of enthusiasm and creativity to the classroom!
The great Canaves. ” EL PROFE”
The best!
Great teacher, I still remember him from the early 80’s (Graduated in 1984). Keep on going Jaime.
