Center for Children and Families to host on-campus information sessions for ADHD program

FIU’s Center for Children and Families is hosting two on-campus information sessions next week for people interested in enrolling a child in the 2015 Summer Treatment Program. Led by CCF Director William E. Pelham Jr., the sessions are open to all FIU faculty, staff and students.

The Summer Treatment Program is an intensive, eight-week camp designed to help children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other behavior disorders improve their problem-solving skills, academic skills, sports skills and peer relationships. Structured treatments are conducted in classroom and recreational settings. Weekly training sessions also are provided for participants’ parents.

The information sessions will be at noon on Monday, May 4, and Thursday, May 7. Sessions will be hosted in AHC 1, Room 135 on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

During the information sessions, Pelham will answer questions about the program and highlight a research study that is examining possible tolerance to ADHD medications and whether taking weekend breaks could help with effectiveness over time.

The summer camp begins June 15. To RSVP for a workshop, call the Center for Children and Families at 305-348-0477 or email at ccf@fiu.edu.
