Dr. Chad Perlyn, chief of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s Division of Plastic Surgery, has been elected president of the Greater Miami Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (MSPS), one of Florida’s largest and most established professional organizations representing plastic surgeons.

“Some of the most extraordinary advancements in plastic surgery have come from our city, and today Miami is home to one of the largest collections of board certified plastic surgeons in the country,” said Perlyn. “I look forward to representing such a prestigious group of physicians and helping to ensure that Miami’s legacy as one of the premiere cities for plastic surgery, be it aesthetic or reconstructive, remains true.”

The MSPS provides an educational forum and academic environment for plastic surgeons involved in all aspects of patient care, including cosmetic surgery, breast reconstruction, hand surgery, burns and pediatric plastic surgery. The society also is dedicated to the advancement of new techniques and patient safety in South Florida. Members are elected by their peers and must have completed strict training and hold certification credentials.

In addition to his academic work at the college, Perlyn – a graduate of the University of Miami Medical School and the University of Oxford, England – is a pediatric surgeon at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital where he specializes in craniofacial surgery, vascular anomalies and pigmented lesions of the skin. His patients are children and young adults with congenital or acquired anomalies and injuries.
