The Bookstore in the Grove

The Wolfsonian–FIU and The Bookstore in the Grove have partnered to create “The Wolfsonian in the Grove,” a monthly public gathering at The Bookstore in the Grove to celebrate history and art with the Coconut Grove community.

The monthly series will center around talks given on The Wolfsonian–FIU’s highly-esteemed illustrated publications, which complement Wolfsonian exhibitions and include related essays written by Wolfsonian curators and local authors. Each month, the event will be tailored to the topics of the books being discussed.

For the kickoff event in June, featured publications are Myth and Machine: Art and Aviation in the First World War – a companion book to the museum’s recent exhibition focusing on cultural responses to WWI and The Birth of Rome: Five Visions for the Eternal City – a riveting compilation of historical artwork and essays highlighting the persistence of Rome in Italy’s interwar national consciousness.

An Italian dinner will be served as a part of a series of weekly Saturday-night dinners, as tribute to this Roman theme. Live music will also be performed before and after the talk. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine will be offered as part of each event. In addition, a 15 percent-off coupon will be given to attendees for use in The Bookstore in the Grove, and there will be a chance to win signed copies of the books being showcased. Admission for all talks is free.

The debut of “The Wolfsonian in the Grove” will take place on June 27, 2015 from 6 to 10 p.m. The talk will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
