Hundreds turn out for White House astronomy night

FIU’s Stocker AstroScience Center was standing room only for the White House Astronomy Night event Oct. 19.

More than 200 astronomy enthusiasts — including FIU students, Booker T. Washington Senior High School students, teachers and astroscience center donor Carl Stocker — filled the observatory to watch President Obama’s remarks from the White House. A special presentation by FIU Physics Professor James Webb followed, along with tours of the observatory, its state-of-the-art control room and the dome that houses the main telescope. The FIU Astronomy Club assisted with the event.
