Physician Assistant program celebrates inaugural White Coat Ceremony

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) officially welcomed its first class of physician assistants.

The 45 students who comprise the inaugural class of the HWCOM Master in Physician Assistant Studies Program were chosen out of nearly 700 applicants. The program’s director, Dr. Pete Gutierrez, says applications for next year’s 45 slots have already surpassed 1,000 and are still coming in.

The inaugural White Coat Ceremony, where students received their first white coats, was held Oct. 22 at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebecca Sosa serving as keynote speaker.
